The First Contact: A Call That Started Everything
Ali came from Belgium.
He started his own business at 20, with a dream to travel the world after three years.
At first, his partner Willy sent an inquiry. Coincidentally, he asked for me by name — Elisa.
I responded as usual: answered questions, solved doubts.
Two days later, I got an unexpected call.
Willy told me Ali was coming to China for a face‑to‑face meeting.
We confirmed the time by email.
The First Meeting: When a Visa Problem Became an Opportunity
Ali first flew to Hong Kong, then planned to come to Shenzhen.
But he didn’t know he needed a visa for mainland China.
He got stopped at the border.
Without thinking twice, I decided to go to Hong Kong the next day to meet him.
That was our first meeting.
We talked for about three hours — details, requirements, expectations.
I gave him some samples to take back.
Before we said goodbye, Ali said:
“I will send the sample payment as soon as I return to Belgium.”
At that moment, I felt something rare: this customer is honest.

A Lesson That Stuck With Me
Ali paid immediately after returning home.
We started the first sample run for his custom product.
Then, in October 2017, we met again at a trade fair in Germany.
Ali came with his team — four people in total.
We reviewed the first samples:
what worked
what needed to be improved
delivery timelines
It felt like meeting family in a foreign country.

The Long Road to the Right Sample
After returning to China, we started the second sample run.
Mid‑November 2017 – samples completed
Early December 2017 – after many rounds of technical discussion, we finalized the production drawings
But we didn’t stop there.
To be fully responsible, we offered to produce one final pre‑production sample for free — to make sure everything was right before mass production.
End of December 2017 – the final sample was approved by Ali and his team.
The Order, the Inspection, and the Visit
In early 2018, the order arrived as promised: 300 sets.
On January 22, 2018, Ali came to Shenzhen to inspect the goods in person.
During the inspection, he kept using words like:
“Perfect.” “It’s great.” “Good job.”
Hearing that, all the sleepless nights finally made sense.
The next day, I took Ali to visit Shenzhen – the most youthful and dynamic city in China.
At the “Splendid China” theme park, Ali became deeply interested in Chinese history — from the Qin Dynasty to modern China.
He even joked:
“I need to learn Chinese well, then travel across China.”

The Most Valuable Business Advice I Ever Received
During that trip, Ali shared something I will never forget:
“Trust in business is built little by little — sometimes over many years.
But one single mistake can destroy what took years to build.
Between buyer and seller, there are only two chances.
First: reply to customers promptly — answer every question.
Second: when the customer asks something, answer directly. Don’t go in circles and miss the point.”
That advice shaped how I work with customers to this day.
My Final Reflection
Looking back, a customer is not just a transaction.
Timing is luck.
Skill is your own ability.
Connection is whether your values match.
Some people say I am lucky.
Maybe. But luck is only one layer.
The real foundation is:
Never stop working hard. Never lose your original intention.
When others doubted the industry, I kept going.
When others gave up, I pushed forward.
When others didn’t know how to follow up, I learned and grew.
I want to be like a small blade of grass —
“Wildfire cannot burn it away. Spring wind brings it back to life.”
Low in status, but never weak in spirit.
