How It Started

When Adam reached out to us, he was working on something quite special: a yearly installation for his camp at Burning Man. His project? A geodesic dome that would come alive with light and sound.

Adam describes himself as "mostly a hobbyist" — but his project tells a different story. This is a builder who knows what he's doing.

The Project: Audio-Reactive Lighting on a Raspberry Pi 5

Adam's plan for this year was ambitious. He was building an audio analyzer on a Raspberry Pi 5 that would:

  • Take an incoming audio signal from a DJ controller

  • Analyze the music track in real time

  • Have the lights in the dome react to the music

And he's already thinking ahead:

"In the future, I hope to make a future iteration of this project that also responds to the movement of people, temperature, daylight, and even the noises of people and cart cars passing by."

This is exactly the kind of creative, technically demanding project that our products are built for.

The Product: 6×10mm WS2811 Mini Pebble Pixel String

Adam needed a compact, addressable pixel string that could be integrated into the dome structure — flexible enough to route through the geometry, durable enough for the desert, and reliable enough for a live audio-reactive installation.

We supplied the 6×10mm WS2811 Mini Pebble Pixel String in three custom length configurations:

Why This Product Fit Adam's Project

Requirement

How the Product Delivered

Compact size

6×10mm mini pebble pixels fit into tight dome structure spaces

Addressable control

WS2811 IC enables per-pixel control for audio-reactive effects

Outdoor durability

IP67 waterproof rating handles the desert environment

Clear cable

Blends into the installation — less visible during daytime

Custom lengths

Three options (1.3m / 1.5m / 2.6m) allowed precise fitting

Reliable connectors

M10 male/female connectors ensure secure daisy-chaining

The Outcome: "Absolutely Perfect"

Adam's feedback says it all:

"The LEDs you recommended are absolutely perfect for this project!

The geodesic dome at Burning Man became an audio-reactive light experience — music from the DJ controller driving the pixel strings in real time, all built on a Raspberry Pi 5.

We're honored to have played a part in bringing Adam's vision to life.
